    COYOTE ALERT

There have been many recent sightings of coyotes in our neighborhoods.  Even in an enclosed yard with a block wall, after dusk or early morning, small dogs should be walked outside on a short leash and supervised at all times. Coyotes are capable of jumping a six-foot-high fence.

Please keep your pets inside or with you at all times.

    PET IDENTIFICATION

Warmer weather means more trips to the park, longer walks and more chances for your pet to wander off.  Please ensure that your four-legged friend has a microchip for identification and wears a tag imprinted with your contact information.

     HIKING

Hiking is good for both you and your dog.  Please be aware that a dog off leash puts them, wildlife and any passerby at risk.  It is always best to keep your dog safe and on-leash. That beautiful looking meadow may be hiding a coyote or rattlesnake.  Be sure to always stay on the hiking trail and not venture into brushy areas.

Keep a lookout for “foxtails”.  These plant awns have been found in ears, noses, between pads, in tonsils, etc.  They have barbs that allow them to migrate in one direction and cause severe pain and infections.

Be sure to bring plenty of water for both you and your dog.  Do not allow your dog to drink from stagnant or foul-smelling ponds.

To avoid the possibility of heat stroke, do not let your pet overdo exercise.  Most dogs will be caught up in your exuberance and aim to please.  Because of this, they may overexert and pay for it by heat stroke, exhaustion, worn pads, etc.  Please keep the age, condition and medical status of your pet in mind before a strenuous trip.  If your pet becomes severely overheated or exhausted, they will require veterinary care immediately.
