THANKSGIVING SAFETY TIPS

  • NO TURKEY!!

Turkey may be toxic to your pet.  As much as you would like your pet to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast, turkey and all of the trimmings may cause stomach upset, diarrhea or even worse – pancreatitis (a painful, serious inflammatory condition of the pancreas).

Keep alcoholic beverages away from your pet(s).  Alcohol is extremely toxic and may cause vomiting, diarrhea, decreased coordination, central nervous system depression, difficulty breathing, tremors, coma and even death.

No bones about it!!  Do not give your pet(s) leftover turkey bones.  Turkey bones can splinter and may also cause intestinal blockage.  Instead, offer your pet Nylabones or made-for-pet chew bones.

No bread dough.  When raw bread is ingested, an animal’s body heat causes the dough to rise in the stomach.  As the dough expands, your pet may experience vomiting, severe abdominal pain and bloating (which is a life-threatening emergency).
